Tremors vs. Tremors
Tremors vs. Tremors is a pioneering project created with University College London (UCL) that turns tremor data into music to treat the multiple symptoms experienced by people with Parkinson’s.
Transforming tremors into music
to turn Parkinson’s against itself.
The symptom becomes the therapy.
Using accelerometers, we measured and recorded the tremors of five patients - Steph, Clare, Prakash, Kuhan and John.
Prakash’s left wrist
John’s left wrist
Steph’s left wrist
Kuhan’s left ankle
Clare’s left ankle
The tremors were then transformed from raw data into a musical element that affected the instruments in each song.
The melody was based on the participants’ musical preferences and the lyrics were inspired by their life stories, reflecting the unique way in which each participant is dealing with their diagnosis.
The album
Five patients. Five unique tremor data sets.
Five personalized songs to treat a condition that has no cure.
The website
A deep dive into how Tremors vs. Tremors came to life, featuring the patients, the songs, and the science of how we turned Parkinson’s most prominent symptom into a treatment tool to fight Parkinson’s.
The documentary
The reaction
Tremors vs. Tremors made international headlines and sparked the interest of doctors and researchers around the world in using it as a blueprint for other projects seeking a holistic treatment of Parkinson’s.
But more importantly, it made a difference in the lives of the patients by helping them control their tremors.
